If you are less than 20 weeks pregnant and experiencing problems, please cotnact your own GP or the Hospital emergency Department on 4796 2910 in the first instance.

To locate Birth suite, come through the front entrance of the hospital (main foyer) and proceed to the main lifts. Take the lift to the second floor, go out to main corridor, turn left and then left again into first corridor. On the right you will see the signs to the glass door of the Birth Suite. Press the intercom and tell the Maternity staff you have arrived and they will let you in.
To access the hospital after hours, go to the main entrance and then turn right, follow the corner round to the left. In front of you on the wall is a brown box, there are two buzzers labelled security or main desk. Press main desk and someone will let you in.
Photographing or videoing of normal births is permissible at the request of the labouring mother, provided that this does not conflict with the primary role of the support person.
Members of the Hospital staff should not be photographed or filmed without their specific consent.
It is emphasised that only normal births may be photographed, thus excluding the use of cameras in the Operating Theatre.
Videoing births require the permission of the Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Please make your request in writing, well before your baby is due.
Patients are encouraged to involve their partner/next of kin/significant other in their pregnancy and birth.
Due to space considerations, it is only possible to have one or two support people for each mother.
To protect privacy for all women, children are not permitted into the Birth Suite.
Caesarean section under epidural anaesthesia - it is usual for one support person to be in Theatre. It is not possible for there to be any additional support people in Theatre.
Caesarean section under general anaesthetic - the support person is not permitted in the Operating Theatre in these circumstances. Rather, the support person may remain in the Birth Suite Lounge.

This is a small area for support people to have a short break during a labour. It is not a general waiting area for family and friends, due to size constraints. Tea and coffee is provided and there is a pay phone available there. Meals are not supplied for support people so we suggest you pack some snacks to bring with you.
Food is available at the cafe on the first floor of the Hospital or the cafe across the road from the Hospital, during business hours.
It is advisable to make a list of the telephone numbers of people you may wish to phone whilst you are in labour or after your baby is born. It is also a good idea to designate one person whom you will telephone with information regarding your progress during labour. Your family and friends can then phone that one person for information. This ensures that your support person(s) is/are free to assist you as required at this most important time, as well as ensuring the Birth Suite Staff are able to concentrate on supporting you both.
