Domestic Violence Initiative (DVI)

Aim of the Domestic Violence Initiative:

To reduce the impact of domestic violence on women's health.

Outcomes:

A standardised method of identification for women subjected to domestic violence
More accurate diagnosis and appropriate response for women who experience domestic violence.
Raised awareness of domestic violence in Queensland Health, one of the largest employers in the State.

A simple questionnaire was collaboratively developed and trialed in antenatal clinics at Kirwan Hospital for Women in Townsville, the Mater Mothers' and Royal Women's Hospital in Brisbane and Cairns and Mt Isa Base Hospital and in emergency settings at the Mater Adult's and Royal Brisbane Hospitals in Brisbane and the Gynaecology Outpatients Department of the Royal Women's Hospital.
