Queensland Health offers employment opportunities for hospital pharmacists in clinical or management roles in a range of settings from major hospitals in large cities to smaller hospitals in rural areas.

The role of a hospital pharmacist may include:

Requirements to practice

Individuals wishing to practice as a pharmacist in Queensland are required to be registered with the Pharmacists Board of Queensland.

To be eligible for registration as a pharmacist you need to complete a pharmacist qualification and undertake a year of supervised practical training.
Pharmacists registered in another Australian state or territory or in New Zealand are eligible to apply for registration to practice under mutual recognition legislation.

Overseas Trained Pharmacists

The Australian Pharmacy Examining Committee (APEC) assists overseas trained pharmacists in obtaining registration as a pharmacist in Australia.

All overseas trained pharmacists are required to complete either of the following two processes:

Stream A – the process will remain the same as the current process for holders of the qualifications from countries whose pharmacy courses and standards of practice have not yet been recognised by the Council of Pharmacy Registering Authorities (COPRA)

Stream B – the process will apply to holders of qualifications from certain countries, whose accredited pharmacy courses and standards of practice have been recognised by COPRA
