Categories for hospitals based on bed numbers
Applications are open to physiotherapy students expecting to graduate from Australian or New Zealand universities by December 2008 and available to commence employment in January 2009. Note: New graduates with qualifications from countries other than Australia or New Zealand can not apply through this process but should contact the Australian Physiotherapy Council on: www.physiocouncil.com.au

All facilities you nominate will be forwarded your application. DO NOT nominate a facility unless you are willing to accept an interview and subsequent offer for a position.

Academic Results may be downloaded from the University website and sent as your initial copy but an original copy must be brought to interview.
No other documentation apart from what has been requested should be submitted at the time of lodging your application.

Key Skill Requirements identify the key skills, abilities, experience and mandatory qualifications required for the position. These are stated in the Role Descriptions. For specific information regarding the various organisations, refer to the relevant Role Descriptions below. However, your ‘short response’ MUST ONLY address the Queensland Health’s Role Description – ‘Key Skill Requirements’.
Describe your relevant experience, outlining how you have used your knowledge, skills and abilities and relate this to your capacity to meet the requirements (or duties) of the job. You can draw examples from non-work activities that demonstrate skills and knowledge relevant to the Key Skill Requirements.

Your application will be forwarded to each of your preferred facilities and candidates for interview will be determined by the Director of Physiotherapy at each facility.
The basis for selection is the merit of each applicant in relation to the Key Skill Requirements. Each applicant’s abilities, aptitude, skills, qualifications, knowledge, experience and personal qualities relevant to the role are considered by the selection panel when determining merit. An applicant’s previous employment, and the extent to which they have potential for development, are also considered if relevant.
Interviews will be conducted from the 3rd October 2008. You may be invited to attend more than one interview.
If you attend more than one facility for an interview, you MUST notify Recruitment Support Services Team of your facility preferences by 12 midday, Tuesday, 28 October 2008.
Please note Queensland Health is unable to assist applicants with travel expenses to attend interviews.

You will be made one offer of employment by a Director of Physiotherapy. Once you have accepted the offer, a letter of appointment will be sent to you from the relevant facility. If appointed to a permanent position, the successful applicant’s name will be published in the Queensland Government Gazette and the Queensland Health Services Bulletin.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CHECKS
Queensland Health needs to verify that information provided by applicants is true and correct. This includes confirming your qualifications or previous employment details. If we receive information that varies from what you have provided, we will seek clarification from you.

Referee checking is a mandatory requirement for all Queensland Health employment.
Referee checking also seeks information on whether an applicant already employed in the Queensland Public Service has previously been subject to disciplinary action.
When an applicant is recommended for a role, a criminal history check must be conducted if the applicant is not an existing permanent employee of Queensland Health.
Queensland Health has a responsibility to:
People recommended for appointment to Queensland Health for periods in excess of three months (excluding existing permanent employees of Queensland Health) will be asked to provide adequate proof of identity and written consent for Queensland Health to conduct a Criminal History Check through the Queensland Police Service.
Failure (without reasonable explanation) to provide the appropriate documentation and consent within seven days of the request will result in disqualification from further consideration for appointment.
Appointment to Queensland Health cannot be finalised until the criminal history checking process is completed. Depending on the relevant duties of the job, having a criminal history may not necessarily result in disqualification for appointment.
If, after obtaining a criminal history report, the Director-General or delegate considers that the recommended person may be unsuitable for the role, the recommended person may make written or oral representations about why they should be appointed before any final decision is made.
For some Queensland Health roles, employees must be deemed suitable to work in child-related employment in accordance with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 (Qld). Queensland Health has a responsibility to apply to the Commission for a suitability notice for all applicants recommended for these roles.
Conditions and salary for Queensland Health employees are as for the District Health Service Employees Award – State and Health Practitioners (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No.1) 2007. The starting salary will be $54, 938 per annum progressing to $57, 136 on 1 September 2009.

The normal working week is 38 hours. New graduate physiotherapists can expect to be included into the existing rostering arrangements of the department. Depending on the particular hospital, these may include weekends and Public Holidays.
Hepatitis B immunisation is a condition of employment for health care workers in Queensland Health who have direct patient contact (for example, Medical Officers, Nurses and Allied Health staff) and staff who may be exposed to blood or blood fluids (such as through exposure to contaminated sharps).
Health care workers in Queensland Health whose occupation poses a potential risk of exposure to blood or body fluids must be immunised against Hepatitis B according to the National health and Medical Research Council Australian Immunisation Handbook and the Queensland Health Infection Control Guidelines.

Code of Conduct training is included in all induction programs for new employees.
Smoking within Queensland Health buildings and grounds (other than in designated smoking areas) is prohibited. Smoking is also prohibited in Queensland Health motor vehicles.
