Mareeba is a thriving community situated on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands of far north Queensland. It is the largest town in the Cairns Hinterland and is at the centre of Australia’s main tobacco-growing region. Aboriginal for “Meeting of the Waters”, Mareeba sits on the banks of the Barron River near the junction of Granite and Emerald Creeks. Coffee, cattle, sugarcane, cashews, macadamias and tropical fruits are just a few of the variety of crops produced in this very fertile area. Mareeba is the administrative and service centre for the Mareeba Shire, offers excellent commercial and recreational facilities, and is only one hour’s drive from the coast.
