About Boulia

Boulia is a secluded country town situated on the Georgia and Burke Rivers in Far West Queensland. The town is pivotal to the wool and cattle industries, providing vital services and conveniences to the surrounding properties. Known as “The Capital of Channel Country”, Boulia is famous for sightings of the mysterious Min-Min Light, an eerie glowing ball which appears from nowhere and disappears without a trace. Boulia offers a relaxed outback lifestyle with plenty of activities.

Living in Boulia

Known as the administrative centre for the Boulia Shire, Boulia hosts a Back to Boulia weekend every September school holidays. This is a celebration of the local industry, heritage, talent and children

The Min Min Lights of Boulia are a well documented phenomenon of lights with no identifiable source. There are many landmarks, souvenirs and tours in the area dedicated to the mystery lights, including the Min Min Encounter, and tourists readily flock to Boulia with intentions to inspect the light formations themselves. While suggestions of UFOs, luminescent insects and light refraction have all been made and debunked, local folklore says that these lights are fuzzy disc-shaped in appearance and will approach witnesses before retreating and disappearing.

Local must see!

The annual Camel Races in Boulia on the third weekend in July is the must-attend event! This three day carnival features live entertainment, dancing, delicious food, fireworks and the prestigious Boulia Camel Cup.
