local council as well as the sheep and cattle industries. As with many agricultural communities, post school qualifications have been completed by a large number of the population, over 40 percent. The local state primary school has an enrolment
of 20 students and many of these students head to Longreach to complete their high school education.
Isisford is a lucky Queensland outback town that experiences rainfall while at the same time as maintaining the wide, dusty plains that Australia is famous for. At certain times of the year some roads in the Shire can become impassable due to heavy rainfall. If you’re venturing out of town, it is advisable to check the conditions of the road with the Isisford Shire Council before you set off.
A must see for the wool enthusiast is the Isis Downs Shearing Shed, the largest shearing shed in Australia. This huge semi-circular construction was fabricated in England, shipped to Australia and built in 1913 by the same company that built
the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
