Mackay Hospital "I enjoy the wide variety of patients I see in one day. Everybody is unique and interesting in their own way".
Clermont is a rural mining town situated near the beautiful Peak Ranges, south west of Mackay. The region was discovered in 1845, established as a grazing district by 1857 and in 1861, gold and copper were unearthed, and the mining town of Clermont was born. In 1916, Clermont was destroyed by flood, necessitating the town to be relocated to higher ground. Even to this day, remains of the original settlement can still be seen, including a piano suspended in a tree. Coal and grazing still the town’s primary industries, as well as tourism and minor gold mining.

If you’re a health professional with a loved one considering a career in mining, investigate Clermont as a potential establishment for yourself and your partner. The coal mining industry is booming and Clermont is one of the many mines in the area always on the lookout for staff. This would coincide perfectly with your
position at Clermont Hospital.
Clermont’s proximity to the Bowen Basin makes it prime real estate for mining conglomerates. For example, Rio Tinto Coal Australia has commenced operations
for a thermal coal mine 12km north-west of Clermont. This mine is expected to provide resources until 2020, meaning that Clermont is on the verge of a boom.
The Piano in the tree, on Capricorn Street, is a quirky reminder of the height of the floodwaters. Marvel at how the piano managed to get there!
