Proserpine is an intimate sugar town located in the centre of the Whitsunday region in North Queensland. The main industries of the region are cattle, sugar production and tourism, although Proserpine’s coffee and turf are growing areas. As a Queensland Health employee, it is likely that you will be distributing health services from the Proserpine hospital. This 35 bed facility provides a number of inpatient, outpatient, elective and emergency theatre, medical imaging and allied health services.
The hospital provides obstetrics, general medical and surgical, paediatrics,
palliative care and a high dependancy unit as inpatient services.
Outpatient services consist of paediatrics, orthopaedics, gynaecology, antenatal, midwifery, wound management, pre-admission, fracture clinic, child and family health clinic, diabetic education, chronic disease management, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, surgery, ear nose & throat, Well Women's, podiatry (private) and dietetics (private). Adult, child and youth community based mental health services are provided as well as alcohol, tobacco and other drug services.
Elective and emergency theatre, general surgery, dental, orthopaedic, obstetrics & gynaecology and endoscopes.
Medical imaging services provided by the hospital are plain x-ray, CT scans and ultrasounds.
Allied health services of social work, speech pathology, pharmacy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are also available.
There are unlimited ways you can spend your weekend in Proserpine, without having to head to Airlie Beach. Take a trip to the Peter Faust Dam for a spot of waterskiing or Barramundi fishing, or drive to Conway Beach and stop off at Cedar Creek Falls. There is also the option of venturing to the world famous Whitsunday Great Walk trails throughout the local Conway Range National Park. Proserpine is well known for its high rainfall in summer and it's this climate that keeps the Falls running all year round.
With its great schools, well priced real estate and numerous after-school activities ranging from a variety of sport to dancing and drama classes, Proserpine is an ideal location for anyone looking at raising a family. The Proserpine locals are very supportive of their rugby league football team, the Brahmans, and the town has produced a number of professional-level league players in its time.
