Dajarra was once the largest trucking centre in the world, being the “end of the line” for Queensland’s northern outback railway system. The train service ceased in 1988 and Dajarra is now a small, laid back town. Dajarra has a rich Aboriginal heritage and is home to many Indigenous people. Dajarra is an ideal location for those looking at escaping the drudgery of a city to a friendly, family-minded community.
The Darjarra Health Clinic provides patients with primary health carers, outpatient services, emergency and observation capacity services.
A wide range of HACC services are also provided by the clinic and many visiting services are available including the Royal Flying Doctor Service (general practice
and child health clinics), mobile women's health, paediatrics, mental health, oral health, pharmacy, dietetics, trachoma service and aged care assessment, physiotherapy and access to North West Allied Health Service.
Understand Dajarra’s history with a visit to the old railway station and the ruins of the holding yards. On viewing these, you will really appreciate the magnitude of what the town would have been like in its heyday. Locals say that in its prime, Dajarra trucked more cattle than Texas, USA!
Many tourists are also fascinated by Mt Leviathan’s (known locally as Black Mountain because of its black ore) Aboriginal paintings and carvings located a
short distance from the town centre.
