The Gold Coast is a major city situated on the south coast of Queensland. Famous for its stunning beaches, sub-tropical rainforests and great entertainment options, the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations. The Gold Coast was originally a series of small seaside townships with economies based on timber, cattle and sugar cane. The towns amalgamated in 1949, creating the Towns of the Gold Coast Council. A popular holiday destination since the 1920s, the Gold Coast’s reputation rapidly grew, attracting visitors from all over the world. Tourism is now its key industry, closely followed by construction and property development. The Gold Coast offers a modern coastal lifestyle in one of Australia’s most desirable locations.
