Redcliffe is a coastal residential city located on the northern outskirts of Greater Brisbane. Popular with holiday makers and day-trippers, Redcliffe is an ideal mix of sandy beaches and picturesque foreshore parks. Discovered by Matthew Flinders in 1799, Redcliffe was the first European settlement in Queensland, established in 1824. The colony was abandoned, however, and relocated to the banks of the Brisbane River the following year. Redcliffe maintained an isolated agricultural existence until 1935 when the Hornibrook Highway was built, linking the Peninsular to Brisbane. Redcliffe became a small seaside retreat and steadily grew in popularity. Today, Redcliffe is a thriving community, offering residents a modern city lifestyle in a relaxed coastal environment.
