Nambour is a major regional town located in the west of the Sunshine Coast. Nambour has grown to become a significant agricultural centre producing a variety of tropical crops including macadamia nuts, bananas, citrus fruits, pineapple and sugar. As a health professional, you will likely be providing health services from the Nambour General Hospital. This facility is presently the biggest regional public hospital in Queensland. With the most recent addition to services being the commissioning of the state of the art procedural suite and cardiac catheter laboratory.

Nambour General Hospital provides a range of diagnostic, surgical, medical and allied health services including, but not limited to: pathology, medical imaging, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, ear nose and throat, ophthalmology, oncology, renal medicine, nuclear medicine, HIV/sexual health clinic, geriatrics, paediatrics, palliative care, social work, oral health and physiotherapy.

HACC services available are home care, allied health and continence advice.

A new tertiary Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) at Kawana will open with 450 beds in 2016 and expand to a 738 bed facility by 2021. SCUH will offer a range of new and expanded services for the Sunshine Coast, including a Skills, Academic and Research Centre on the site.

Once you’ve established living arrangements, head to the Nambour Friday Moonlight Markets on the last Friday of every month from 5pm. Organised by the Sunshine Coast Council, the markets have a range of food, arts, fresh produce
and entertainment to suit everyone and the stalls are manned by locals. It’s the perfect way to get to know your neighbours and the area.

Nambour is within close range to the coastline. The Sunshine Coast is a popular centre for overseas tourists. In 2011 there were 2,963,000 domestic and international overnight visitors. As such, the culture of the Sunshine is a diverse blend of international residents, visitors and Aussie locals.

Nambour is the gateway to the natural beauty of the Hinterland. The lush, sub-tropical rainforests of the Blackall Range are only a short drive from the township. Visit Mapleton National Park, Kondalilla National Park and Buderim Forest Park, these parks are excellent locations for swimming, bush walking, bird-watching and photography.
