Geographic Description of the District’s Administrative Area:

The Cairns District Health Service covers an area of approximately 40,833 square kilometres which includes 11 Statistical Local Areas (SLA). As with most districts, SLA boundaries do not reflect District boundaries. In this regard, three of these SLAs, Mareeba, Cairns City - Pt. B and Cook (excluding Weipa) overlap the Tableland's, Innisfail and Cape York District Health Service boundaries respectively.

The geographical description of the District includes the City of Cairns (excluding Division 1 but including the Towns of Gordonvale and Aloomba), Shire of Cook*, Shire of Douglas, Division 4 of Shire of Mareeba (east of the Oakey/Blackwater Creeks including the towns of Koah and Kuranda).

*(that portion of the Shire south and east of a line from Cape Flattery due west to the Normanby River then due south to the boundary of Mareeba Shire - includes Cooktown, Hopevale, Wujal Wujal and Laura)
