District Overview The Metro North Health Service District was established in September 2008 following a major restructure of Queensland Health. Metro North Health Service District provides the full range of health services including rural, regional and tertiary teaching hospitals. The District covers an area of 4157 square kilometres and extends from the Brisbane River to north of Kilcoy. Hospitals within the Metro North Health Service District include Caboolture Hospital, Kilcoy Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Redcliffe Hospital, Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Services within Metro North Health Service District include Aged Care / Residential / Acquired Brain Injury Services, Primary and Community Health Service, Mental Health Services and Oral Health Services.
Aged Care, Residential and Acquired Brain Injury We have aged care facilities at Eventide, Ashworth House and Cooinda and can accommodate the frail aged, dementia secure, dementia non secure and psychogeriatric care. Halwyn Centre provides care for people with high complex intellectual and physical disabilities. Jacana is for people with acquired brain injury and provides Dual Diagnosis residential service for clients with Acquired Brain Injury and mental health diagnosis.
Caboolture Hospital The Caboolture hospital is a 130 bed hospital, with hospital services including Obstetrics/Gynaecology, general surgery, general medicine, day surgery, pathology, emergency medicine, gastroenterology, paediatrics, medical imaging pharmacy and mental health. Allied Health services include physiotherapy, dietetics, speech pathology, social work and occupational therapy.
Kilcoy Hospital Kilcoy Hospital is a 30 bed acute hospital, providing medical, emergency, paediatrics, physiotherapy, specialised outpatient clinics and clinical support services to the shire of Kilcoy. The Hospital has expanded its clinical services to include chemotherapy and a palliative care bed in a hospice environment. A Home Maternity Service has been implemented to care for new mothers and their babies when they return to Kilcoy. A wide range of support and community home visiting services is provided in close liaison with private domiciliary services. The Community Health Nurse and Social Worker are an integral part of the hospital and community teams, ensuring continuity of care for local consumers. A range of health promotion and education programs are undertaken including diabetes education, antenatal education and parenting support. A Child and Youth Service is provided.
Primary and Community Care Services Primary and community health services provided throughout the District include primary health and care coordination; rehabilitation and consultation; community acute post acute; palliative care; healthier children and families; Indigenous health; alcohol and drug services; and sexual health and HIV services.
The Prince Charles Hospital The Prince Charles Hospital is a major tertiary level cardiothoracic referral hospital for Queensland, the largest such unit in Australia and one of the largest services of its type in the world. The Hospital is also the District hub for specialist needs in psychiatry, geriatric medicine, orthopaedics and aged care, together with outreach specialist services throughout Queensland. With the opening of the new building in March 2007, services now include general medicine and general surgery.
Redcliffe Hospital Redcliffe Hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, oncology, orthopaedics, emergency, obstetrics, paediatrics, specialist outpatient clinics and clinical support services. Other Services include: Home Ward, Community Hospital Interface Program and diabetes care.
Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital is a 986 bed general, tertiary referral teaching hospital with a number of specialities including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, psychiatry, oncology and trauma services. Women's and Newborn Services provide comprehensive care of obstetric, gynaecological and neonatal intensive care patients/clients on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital is the largest tertiary referral hospital in Queensland. The hospital fulfils a significant teaching and research role with links to Queensland's major tertiary institutions.
