Clinical placement information for allied health students

The information on this page has been developed to support allied health students who undertake clinical placement within Queensland Health facilities. Allied health students are requested to read the Allied Health student training guide for students (PDF 76 kB) which outlines the responsibilities of all parties involved in the provision of training for placements.

  • Students must complete all Queensland Health student placement orientation requirements as detailed on the Clinical Placements webpages before commencing a placement within a Queensland Health facility. Students will not be able to commence placement until their orientation is completed.

    Stop - important information

Students must present a completed and signed copy of the Student orientation checklist and any associated documentation to their education provider’s placement coordinator prior to the commencement of their placement. It is recommended that students check the website prior to completing any training and associated documentation even if they have undertaken a placement within a Queensland Health facility previously, as the website is updated regularly.

Some of the orientation requirements require access to iLearn.

Students are encouraged to apply for iLearn access as soon as they have been notified of their placement with the Queensland Health facility as iLearn registration can take up to 3 working days to be processed.

For further information regarding iLearn access, refer to the Preparing for your clinical placement webpage and the iLearn user help for students (PDF 555 kB) for guidance on how to register). Once registration is complete, students may then access the course catalogue to search for the required training.

Mozilla Firefox is the recommended browser for accessing iLearn. If you experience any issues while completing any of the courses, you will need to refresh the page or restart the module.

If you continue to experience technical errors or issues, or do not receive your login details within 3 business days, please contact the help desk on 1800 198 175.

  • Allied health students wishing to undertake a clinical placement in a Queensland Government Hospital and Health Service will need to complete a number of training modules prior to commencement of their placement.

The training has been developed and collated in accordance with The National Safety and Quality Healthcare Service (NSQHS) Standards to facilitate the safe practice of students and to support patient, student, and staff safety.

Completion of this training will facilitate the early commencement of clinical learning on placements and ongoing placement provision by facilities.

    Stop - important information

As students progress through the below training modules, they will need to complete the Record of Allied Health Student Training (PDF 1074 kB). The completed, signed and dated evidence record must be provided by the student to the clinical educator (or other nominated contact where a clinical education is not available) at each Queensland Government Hospital and Health Service placement site at the commencement of each placement.

  • Below are the links to the required training modules, their transcripts and for some modules a short video. Please work your way through the list and sign off on your evidence record as you progress through the modules. To access each module, click on its title and you will be linked to the site housing the module.

    Please note

These are not iLearn courses and you will not receive a certificate of completion for viewing these resources. By signing the evidence record, you are stating that you have viewed these resources in preparation for your clinical placement.

    • Child abuse and neglect (PDF) (Note: Students are not required to complete the Child Abuse and Neglect Self Assessment Capability Tool referred to in the training module.)
    • General evacuation instructions (GEI) in iLearn (Note: this is training is required on commencement of placement, but may be completed prior to placement via iLearn. GEI must be completed for each site, and is valid for 12 months from the date of completion.)
    Please note

The child abuse and neglect training is not an iLearn course and you will not receive a certificate of completion for viewing these resources. By signing the evidence record, you are stating that you have viewed these resources in preparation for your clinical placement.

Some GEIs for HHSs may exist on iLearn, however this is facility specific. Students should confirm with their facility contact how the GEI can be accessed and completed online prior to commencement of placement.
