Atherton Hospital

Purpose of role

  • To provide medical leadership at Atherton Hospital and other Tablelands facilities in Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service
  • Maintain and develop of high quality medical services at Atherton Hospital
  • Provide professional advice and participate as a member of the Tablelands Management Committee
  • Provide a clinical role in advanced rural generalist practice
  • Contribute as a team member to high quality health services in primary and secondary medical care to individual patients as well as population health service to the local community
  • Take a lead role in clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement
  • Lead the development of clinical knowledge and skills. Facilitate appropriate supervision of training junior doctors and medical students

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Well developed clinical leadership skills
  • Competence in rural medical practice with certification of at least one advanced rural skill in obstetrics or anaesthetics
  • Ability to function in a multidisciplinary team and to provide leadership within the team
  • Experience in education and training of medical staff and/or medical students
  • High level of communication skills in clinical practice and corporate functions
  • Commitment to improving standards and quality of health care and patient safety within the hospital and community

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • You must be registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
  • You must apply to the CHHHS credentialing and clinical scope of practice committee for advanced rural generalist practice including either obstetrics or anaesthetics at the time of appointment and have credentialing and privileges approved at the commencement of work
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty
  • Where a job applicant claims in their application or at interview to possess a tertiary level qualification (eg degree or diploma) or other significant qualification, irrespective of whether or not the qualification claimed is relevant to the position applied for, the applicant must provide the employer with proof of possession of the qualification.  Employment with Queensland Health is subject to satisfactory proof of attainment of the claimed qualification.  Validation of this claim may be provided in the form of a certified copy of the awarded qualification
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a "C" class vehicle, and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required.  Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty

Mossman Multipurpose Health Service

Purpose of role

  • To provide medical leadership at Mossman Hospital and other Rural Inpatient Service facilities in Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service
  • Maintain and develop of high quality medical services at Mossman Hospital
  • Provide professional advice and participate as a member of the Rural Inpatient Service Management Committee
  • Provide a clinical role in advanced rural generalist practice
  • Contribute as a team member to high quality health services in primary and secondary medical care to individual patients as well as population health service to the local community
  • Take a lead role in clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement
  • Lead the development of clinical knowledge and skills. Facilitate appropriate supervision of training junior doctors and medical students

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties
  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • You must apply to the CHHHS credentialing and clinical scope of practice committee for advanced rural generalist practice including either emergency medicine, obstetrics or anaesthetics at the time of appointment and have credentialing and privileges approved at the commencement of work
  • Potential applicants are advised that Section 63-1A of the Aged Care Act 1997 requires Queensland Health to seek a criminal conviction record report from the Australian Federal Police; conduct a search of bankruptcy records; and conduct previous employment and referee checks
