Principal House Officer

Purpose of Role

  • Provide high quality clinical care to hospital emergency patients and patients at rural clinics.
  • Assist the Medical Superintendent in the development of medical practice skills for medical and nursing staff

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to review, analyse and evaluate patient care for the identification of appropriate treatment and investigations
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical records; administrative and statistical
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a multidisciplinary professional environment, as a member of a team
  • Knowledge and commitment to Queensland Health's core values of quality and recognition, professionalism, teamwork and performance accountability
  • Understanding of quality improvement processes and human resource management issues including occupational health and safety, equal employment opportunity and antidiscrimination

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • Possession of or eligibility for General Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Queensland.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty.
  • Where a job applicant claims in their application or at interview to possess a tertiary level qualification (eg degree or diploma) or other significant qualification, irrespective of whether or not the qualification claimed is relevant to the position applied for, the applicant must provide the employer with proof of possession of the qualification.  Employment with Queensland Health is subject to satisfactory proof of attainment of the claimed qualification.  Validation of this claim may be provided in the form of a certified copy of the awarded qualification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a "C" class vehicle, and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required.  Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.
  • While not mandatory, possession of the following would be well regarded:
    - FRACGP, FACRRM or equivalent and vocational registration
    - Procedural skills in obstetrics or anaesthetics
    - Emergency skills including qualifications in EMST, ALS, ATLS and ALPS
