Babinda Hospital

Purpose of role

  • To assist in the provision of high quality clinical services for hospital inpatient and outpatients as a member of a multi-disciplinary team delivering integrated primary and secondary level health services.  The position is actively involved in the implementation of the chronic disease strategy and the provision of professional development support to health staff

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills extending across the broad range of general medicine, with an ability to work in relative isolation including comprehensive and concise documentation of appropriate assessment, investigations, treatment, discharge planning and referral of patients
  • Demonstrated competence in clinical problem solving at an advanced level
  • Direct the process of discharge of patients including discharge planning from admissions
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and provide medical care, including emergency medical care, in a multidisciplinary environment

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • The position requires the incumbent to have obtained a degree in medicine and  current registration with /or eligible  for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Queensland
  • Vocational registration as a GP, FRACGP, or FACRRM is a highly desirable qualification for this position, though applicants who are working towards these qualifications will be considered
  • Experience across a broad field of general medicine is highly desirable
  • An interest and experience in Public health, and Indigenous and Rural & Remote Health, is highly desirable
  • Evidence of competency in speaking, writing and comprehending English
  • The position requires the flexibility to work rostered hours including weekends, and participate in 24/7 emergency on-call coverage of Babinda Hospital
  • Some travel within the CHHHS, Area or State may be necessary to fulfill the role including obligations to complete training, participate in networks, or to conduct health and safety audits/investigations
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty
  • Health Care Workers in Queensland Health whose occupation poses a potential risk of exposure to blood  or body fluids must be immunised against Hepatitis B according to the National Health and Medical Research Council Australian Immunisation Handbook and the Queensland Health Infection Control Guidelines

Innisfail Hospital

Purpose of role

  • At Innisfail Hospital and other facilities within the Innisfail Health Services Hub, you will contribute as a team member to unsupervised, high quality medical service in primary and secondary medical care to individual patients as well as population health service to the local community.  You will commit to patient safety and continual development of your clinical knowledge and skills, and to supervising and training junior doctors and medical students

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Competence and capability in primary rural medical practice (particularly hospital based practice) with certification of at least one (secondary) advanced rural skill specified above
  • Ability to function as in a multidisciplinary team and to provide leadership within the team
  • Experience in education and training of medical staff and/or medical students
  • High level of communication skills in clinical practice and corporate functions
  • Commitment to improving standards and quality of health care and patient safety within the hospital and community

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • You must be registered with or eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • You must be able to apply to the CHHHS credentialing and clinical scope of practice committee for advanced rural generalist practice including either obstetrics or anaesthetics at the time of appointment and have credentialing and privileges approved at the commencement of work
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty

Mossman Multipurpose Health Service

Purpose of role

  • Provide high quality clinical care to hospital patients and patients at rural clinics
  • Assist the Medical Superintendent in the development of medical practice skills for medical and nursing staff

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Demonstrated high level of skill in trauma management, general and emergency medicine and ability to carry out medical duties independently and proficiently
  • Ability to practice medicine in a rural medical practice
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a multidisciplinary professional environment, as a clinical leader
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise junior medical staff
  • Understanding of quality improvement processes and human resource management issues including occupational health and safety, equal employment opportunity and antidiscrimination

Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties
  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty
  • Potential applicants are advised that Section 63-1A of the Aged Care Act 1997 requires Queensland Health to seek a criminal conviction record report from the Australian Federal Police; conduct a search of bankruptcy records; and conduct previous employment and referee checks
  • While not mandatory, possession of the following would be well regarded:

Tully Hospital

Purpose of role

At Tully Hospital and other facilities within the Innisfail Health Services Hub, you will contribute as a team member to unsupervised, high quality medical service in primary and secondary medical care to individual patients as well as population health service to the local community.  You will commit to patient safety and continual development of your clinical knowledge and skills, and to supervising and training junior doctors and medical students.

  • In cooperation with the Medical Superintendent and Director of Nursing/Facility Manager to provide and maintain an effective, efficient and equitable medical service at the Tully Hospital, Jumbun Clinic and other facilities with the Innisfail Health Services
  • To work in coordination with the Medical Superintendent, Director of Nursing/Facility Manager and other personnel within the Tully Hospital, other hospitals and outside agencies to ensure Tully Hospital integrates satisfactorily within the wider community
  • To work unsupervised and to supervise and train junior medical staff and students
  • To ensure maintenance of medical registration and credentials and privileges as per Queensland Health Policy
  • To ensure that the delivery of patient care reflects the Primary Health Care principles.

Tully Hospital is a 20 bed facility, comprised of the following areas: Maternity, Public Medical/Surgical, Paediatrics and others, Accident and Emergency/Outpatient's department.

Different visiting specialist services are also provided on a regular basis.  Tully Hospital is also responsible for providing weekly medical services to Jumbun Clinic.

A multi-disciplinary approach is utilised in the delivery of care, a commitment to quality and quality practices in the delivery of services to the Tully area.  The Tully Hospital operates within a primary health care focus.

The position of Senior Medical Officer reports to and is responsible to the Medical Superintendent, Tully Hospital.

Gurriny Yealamucka Primary Health Care Centre

Purpose of role

  • The purpose of the position is to work in a collocated model of health care with Gurriny Yealamucka Aboriginal Corporation, Queensland Health and Queensland Ambulance Service and is responsible for the provision of effective, efficient and equitable clinical medical services within Yarrabah Health Service reflecting Primary Health Care principles

Key skill requirements / competencies

  • Ability to deliver culturally appropriate clinical and primary health care at an advanced level working within a collaborative practice collocated model of care
  • Ability to provide leadership, precept staff and contribute to professional nursing practice
  • Ability to effectively plan and coordinate education activities for individuals and groups
  • Ability to apply well developed interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary environment, including negotiation, consultation and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes and activities and the ability to apply validated-research to clinical practice
  • Knowledge of contemporary Human Resource Management issues at both the broad and specific level, with particular reference to Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-discrimination
