Our caseload includes seeing patients after stroke or with progressive degenerative diseases, patients with head and neck cancer, respiratory disorders and those recovering from illness or surgery. We also assess and manage swallowing and communication for patients with a tracheostomy and offer instrumental assessment of swallowing if further investigation is required.
Paediatric services are provided for inpatients and outpatients working with issues related to acute illness or medical condition such as:
- Neonatal - respiratory and cardiac conditions
- Craniofacial abnormalities
- Tongue tie
- Neurological disorders
- Voice disorders
Specialist Outpatient Clinics
Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS) Clinic: This clinic is offered weekly for both inpatients and outpatients requiring further investigation into their swallowing disorders.
Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) Clinic: This clinic is run weekly in conjunction with the Ear, Nose and Throat Consultant, for both inpatients and outpatients.
Laryngectomy Clinic: This clinic provides services for patients who have undergone a laryngectomy in Far North Queensland.
