Visiting hours

Visiting hours are usually 10 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm. There’s a rest period from 1 pm to 3 pm. Visiting hours may vary for each hospital and for different wards. We have information about each hospital’s visiting hours in the list of hospitals below.

It’s a good idea to contact the hospital you’re visiting directly to confirm their visiting rules and visiting hours before leaving home.

What can I bring to hospital?

When you’re visiting a person in hospital, you can bring them things like books, magazines and fruit.

Some hospitals don’t allow flowers on wards or other clinical areas. Check with the hospital before bringing or sending someone flowers.

Hand hygiene

When you’re visiting someone in hospital, make sure you clean your hands using soap and water or a hand sanitiser. You need to do this when you enter or leave a patient’s room or other areas of the hospital.

If you’re unwell

Please don’t visit anyone in hospital if you have a cough, cold, diarrhoea, vomiting or any other infectious condition.
