Central West Health COVID-19 Vaccination Program

Welcome to the Central West Hospital and Health Service (CWHHS) COVID-19 Vaccination Program information page.

  • All COVID-19 vaccines given in Australia have passed tests to prove that they are safe and effective.

    The vaccine is free for everyone, and while not mandatory is recommended to help protect you and your family from COVID-19.

    Pfizer (also called Comirnaty) Vaccine

    • The primary course of vaccination is 2 doses.
    • Pfizer vaccine is available for everyone aged 5 years and over.
    • To ensure the greatest protection from COVID-19, those aged 5-11 years are recommended a second dose Pfizer vaccine 8 weeks after the first dose.
    • To ensure the greatest protection from COVID-19, those aged 12 years and over are recommended a second dose Pfizer vaccine 8 weeks after the first dose.

    About Third Dose (Booster) Vaccinations for People Aged 12 to 15 years

    • The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends you have a booster dose if you:
      • are severely immunocompromised
      • have a disability with significant or complex health needs
      • have complex and/or multiple health conditions that increase the risk of severe COVID-19.
    • Pfizer is safe and recommended for booster doses, regardless of the vaccine type received in your first and second dose COVID-19 vaccinations.

    About Third Dose (Booster) Vaccinations for People Aged 16 to 64 years

    • ATAGI recommends you have the booster dose 3 months after your second dose to keep your immunisation up to date.
    • Pfizer is safe and recommended for booster doses, regardless of the vaccine type received in your first and second dose COVID-19 vaccinations.

    About Fourth Dose (Second Booster) Vaccinations

    • ATAGI recommends the following people have a fourth dose (second booster) 4 months after the third dose (booster) or after recovery from a COVID-19 infection:
      • People aged 65 years and older
      • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older
      • Residents of aged care or disability care facilities
    • Pfizer is safe and recommended for the fourth booster dose, regardless of the vaccine type received in your first, second and third dose COVID-19 vaccinations.

    About Vaccinations for People who have already had COVID-19.

    • ATAGI recommends an interval of 3 months between contracting COVID-19 (day one of your positive test result) and ANY of your COVID-19 vaccination doses - regardless of your age.

    About Vaccinations for People who are Immunocompromised.

    • If you are immunocompromised, ATAGI recommends you have a third dose between 2 and 6 months after your second dose to keep your immunisation up to date. This is considered part of the primary course.
    • A fourth dose (also called a first booster dose) is recommended 4 months after your third dose.
    • A fifth dose (second booster) is recommended 4 months after your fourth dose.
    • Pfizer is safe and recommended for booster doses, regardless of the vaccine type received in your primary course.
    • Please speak with your GP about your eligibility and a referral letter.

    AstraZeneca (also called Vaxzevria) Vaccine

    • This vaccine is no longer provided at Central West Hospital and Health Service clinics.

    Talk to you local pharmacist or GP about other vaccination options in your community.

    • Vaccinations are available for everyone aged 5 years and over at the Birdsville Primary Health Centre.

    • Vaccinations are available for everyone aged 5 years and over at the Blackall General Practice

    • Vaccinations are available for everyone aged 5 years and over at the Boulia Primary Health Centre.

  • Isisford
    Everyone aged 5 years and over can keep up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination at the Isisford Primary Health Centre.

    Everyone aged 5 years and over can keep up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination at the Jericho Health Clinic.
