Busy month for Biloela maternity unit ahead of International Day of the Midwife
1 May 2019
Sunday, 5 May is International Day of the Midwife and we believe CQ Health’s midwives are the best there are.
Our midwives support maternity services across our health service and deliveries at Biloela, Gladstone, Emerald and Rockhampton.
At Biloela Maternity Unit they were busier than usual in April.
Nurse Educator, Maternity at Biloela Hospital Bernadette Vasiliadis says the hospital’s midwives delivered nine babies in April, with six being delivered between the 20th and 26th.
“Birthing has boomed this month. The unit has delivered seven boys and two girls”, she said.
Last financial year Biloela Hospital birthed an average of 5 babies per month. This past month has seen that number almost doubled.
Acting Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery Mathew Boyd says the small team is well equipped and well trained to deal with birthing spikes.
“We are proud to provide a fantastic maternity service to the Banana Shire and our midwives in the Biloela Maternity Unit ensure great care for the women and babies of Central Queensland,” he said.
