Intensive Care team thanked for lifesaving treatment

A grateful former patient returned to Rockhampton Hospital Intensive Care Unit this week to say thanks to the team who worked tirelessly for 10 weeks to save his life.
Nevyl Raatz had surgery for a twisted bowel and a few days later significantly deteriorated and ended up intubated in the Intensive Care Unit.
He and his wife Coral wanted to show the ICU team how far he’s come since his admission.
“The treatment we got in ICU was wonderful,” Mrs Raatz said. “They were caring and thoughtful and did everything they could to make Nev get better. We could not fault them in any way.
“We decided when he was a lot better we’d go up with some chocolates to say thank you and show them how well he looks.
“They put so much into his care, and after 10 weeks we were kind of part of the furniture really.
“If you have to be in an Intensive Care Unit - you couldn’t get better treatment anywhere,” Mrs Raatz said.
