New machine a great addition to BreastScreen Rockhampton

29 November 2022

BreastScreen’s Rockhampton clinic has launched a second new mammography machine that will help diagnose breast cancer more quickly, more accurately and with more comfort for Central Queensland women.

The 3 Dimensions Mammography System (Hologic 3D) from Hologic Australia is designed to provide higher quality images, a more comfortable experience and enhanced workflow.

“We now have two machines with the best technology available for diagnosing breast cancer right here in Rockhampton,” said BreastScreen Queensland Rockhampton Health Promotion Officer Roxanne Hodda.

“BreastScreen Rockhampton screens approximately 13,000 women per year, and about 800 of those will be called back for further testing. That’s where the Hologic 3D comes in.”

The new Hologic 3D is designed to be the fastest, highest resolution breast tomosynthesis system, ever.

The Hologic 3D includes a state-of-the-art curved compression surface that mirrors the shape of the breast for a more even compression and more comfortable experience.

“We’ve had lots of comments from clients about the comfort of the new machine, and the noticeable difference compared to their previous screens,” said BreastScreen Chief radiographer Joshna Govender.

“It’s nice knowing we can make that difference for clients”.

All women aged 40 and over are eligible for a free BreastSreen every 2 years.  You can book your free breast screen at www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au or by calling 13 20 50.

A doctor's referral is not required and appointments generally take less than 30 minutes.
