Darling Downs Health has announced upcoming changes to its program of providing free COVID-19 testing in Toowoomba.
Darling Downs Health Chief Executive Dr Peter Gillies said the Baillie Henderson drive-in test centre was scheduled to cease operations from 4:00pm this Friday, 13 November.
“With numbers of people presenting for COVID-19 testing steadily decreasing in recent weeks we’ve made the decision to cease operations at the Baillie Henderson drive-in test site,” Dr Gillies said.
“We will keep all the infrastructure in place so we’re fully equipped and able to re-establish the site at very short notice if it’s needed again in the future.”
Dr Gillies said Darling Downs Health would still provide free COVID-19 testing.
“Our drive-in test centre at the BP Charlton Truckstop is remaining open, providing COVID-19 testing 8.30am to 4.00pm, seven days a week,” he said.
“It’s free, there is no GP referral required and the BP site, just west of Toowoomba on the Warrego Highway, can accommodate cars, vehicles with caravans and trucks.
“It’s easily accessible via O’Mara Road, which runs between Cecil Plains Road and the Warrego Highway, and drivers don’t have to leave their vehicle to have a test.
“While we’ve seen fewer people presenting for COVID-19 testing recently I’d like to stress that we’re not out of the woods yet and it’s still very important to have a COVID-19 test if you are feeling unwell.
“If you have symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, fatigue, diarrhoea, vomiting or nausea, loss of smell and/or taste, please get tested as soon as possible.”
