A community awareness event will be held at the Cherbourg Hospital later this month about liver health.
The event is an opportunity for the community to learn more about their liver, the job it does and how to keep healthy.
“We will provide the community with information and the opportunity to talk to our staff about liver health, conditions such as hepatitis and treatments available,” Cherbourg Health Service Alcohol and Other Drugs, Nurse Unit Manager, Janette Goeman said.
“Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the liver and can be caused by a range of issues including viruses, excessive alcohol consumption, contact with chemical toxins or other conditions.
“It can be a lifelong issue but there are things people can do, including a number of improved treatments, to stay healthy even if they have hepatitis.”
The event coincides with World Hepatis Day which is held on 28 July.
The Love your Liver, Love Your Life community event will be held on Friday 30 July from 10.30am to 2pm in the Cherbourg Hospital grounds and will include a barbecue.
