Warwick Hospital child health nurse Linda Coombes, with her replica baton, will take part in the Queens Baton Relay on Thursday 29 March.

Warwick Hospital’s Linda Coombes will participate in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay as it weaves its way through the Southern Downs.

Ms Coombes will carry the baton 200-metres along Palmerin St in Warwick on Thursday 29 March.

The once-in-lifetime opportunity is something the local child health nurse is looking forward to.

"I was nominated to run with the baton by a friend for my work in launching the Warwick park run event," Ms Coombes said.

Park run is a weekly event held in hundreds of locations across Australia. The five-kilometre timed run is a grassroots event aimed at getting local people more active.

"Warwick’s park run was the number 21 in Queensland and no 40 in Australia when it was launched four years ago," she said.

"There are now 287 events in Australia. It has really grown."

Ms Coombes has worked for the Warwick Hospital in a number of different roles, including as a midwife and child health nurse, for nearly 17 years.

"I love working with women and babies," she said.
