Orthotics and prosthetics
Orthotics and prosthetics units within Queensland Health provide orthotic and prosthetic management including the issue of orthoses (external limb / spinal bracing) and interim prostheses (artificial limbs) to eligible patients.
Requirements to practise
Orthotists and prosthetists practising in Queensland must possess tertiary level qualifications providing eligibility for membership with the Australian Orthotic Prosthetics Association (AOPA).
At present the Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics and the Masters in Clinical Prosthetics from La Trobe University, Melbourne are the only Australian qualifications recognised for membership with the AOPA.
Internationally qualified orthotists/prosthetists
Internationally qualified orthotists / prosthetists can contact the Australian Orthotic Prosthetics Association (AOPA) to determine whether their qualification is eligible for membership.
