Swapping hospital allocations

Two Applicant group A candidates may request a 'swap' if they wish to switch to each other's hospital of initial allocation.

This is only offered for Applicant group A candidates and is always at the hospital's discretion.

Approval for a swap is not guaranteed. Requests are assessed on a case by case basis.

Requests for a swap to or from an interstate facility are not considered.

If one of the applicants fails to commence duty at the hospital they swapped across to, then the other applicant involved in the swap may be required to fulfil their intern year at their original posting.

How to apply for a hospital swap

Requests to swap can only be made after all offers have been finalised for Applicant Group A candidates. See round 1 offers in the campaign dates.

Applicants wishing to swap must check the facilities' frequently asked questions documents for the hospitals involved and make sure they are able to accommodate the swap.

Both recruited applicants are required to provide written notice of their intention to swap and detail their reasons via email to the:

All parties concerned must agree to the swap:

  • Medical recruiter will contact the Director of Medical Services (or delegate) of each hospital and acquire their approval.
  • Medical recruiter will advise applicants of the decision and forward a copy of the delegates' written approvals to the Intern Campaign Coordinator.

Intern Campaign Coordinator will update the online application system to reflect the approved swap, after all approvals have been finalised.
