Queensland Psychiatry Training Programs

Queensland Health Directors of Hospital and Health Services in conjunction with the Queensland Branch Training Committee (QBTC) and Office of Postgraduate Training in Psychiatry (PGT) oversee Psychiatry training rotation placements.

Psychiatry training is a postgraduate medical course for doctors and the successful completion of the program allows trainees eligibility to become Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists RANZCP (FRANZCP). This qualifies you to practise independently as consultant psychiatrists in Australia or New Zealand.


To be eligible to apply for an advanced training position, applicants must have:

Applicants who have or have had special conditions, limitations, notations, undertakings or provisional requirements imposed on their registration must provide full disclosure of the nature of these to the Committee for Training with their application.

Other requirements

Before nominating preferences all trainees must:

  • complete 12 months of adult general rotations to complete Stage I Training prior to being able to access sub-specialty rotations
  • do their child rotation in their second year of training unless granted formal exemption from Director of Training

Interview, selection and offer dates

Allocations and training rotational placements are considered by the Directors of the Hospital and Health Services in conjunction with the QBTC and Office of PGT.
