About the campaign
Queensland Health facilitates an annual campaign to recruit resident medical officers (RMOs) and registrars for positions in Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) across the state. The role of the RMO campaigns team is to manage the online application system and assure that candidate applications are available to employing entities.

Participating facilities and training programs
- Hospital and Health Service (HHS): a group of hospitals or health care facilities located in a defined geographical area and governed by a single HHS Board.
- Hospital or facility: hospital or health care facility situated within a HHS.
- Private hospitals: Mater Group and Greenslopes Private Hospital
- Queensland Health vocational pathways, networks and training programs: coordinate the recruitment, selection and allocation of new and continuing trainees to training positions within a Queensland public or private facility.
- Specialist medical colleges: providers of specialist medical training and specialist training programs which lead to qualifications for practice in a recognised medical specialty.

Position levels
The following position levels are advertised via the RMO campaign:
- Provisional Fellowship Year (PFY)
- Registrar (REG)
- Principal House Officer (PHO)
- Senior House Officer (SHO)
- Junior House Officers(JHO)
In Queensland, registrar level positions are generally 'training' positions however some facilities offer Registrar level positions which are non-accredited training and may not count towards training time. Please check with the facility directly about these vacancies.
Please note: PGY2 are not precluded from applying for a non-rotational SHO positions but would be paid at the rate commensurate with their postgraduate experience under the applicable award.

Who can apply
Medical practitioners who are seeking to practice medicine in Queensland and hold current registration or be eligible to obtain registration with the Medical Board of Australia prior to commencing work. For further information on registration, please visit the Medical Board of Australia website.

Overseas-trained doctors
Overseas trained doctors, also known as International Medical Graduates (IMGs), must hold or be eligible to obtain registration with the Medical Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to obtain a working visa to practice in Australia. Preferences
Candidates can preference up to five (5) hospitals at Step 10: Preferences of the online application. Candidates should always discuss employment opportunities with their preferenced facilities or training programs before submitting an application. Please note, some facilities receive a large number of 1st preference applications and may not be required to review preferences 2 to 5.
Once the campaign closes, only your preferenced facilities or training programs can access your online application and attachments to assess and conduct meritorious recruitment activities. The facility or training program may contact candidates to discuss applications, employment opportunities or organise interviews.
If you are not contacted by a facility, we suggest you contact them directly to enquire on the progress of your application, refer to Participating hospital contacts and profiles webpage.

Facility preferences 1 to 5 assess applications, contact candidates to discuss applications, employment opportunities or organise interviews. RECRUITMENT ROUND 1:
Registrar/PHO - Job Offer
1st preference facility or training program provide job offer. Once job offer is accepted, candidate is allocated on the eRecruitment system. If no job offer is provided, 2-5 preferenced facilities provide job offer. Once offer is accepted, candidate is allocated on the eRecruitment system. RECRUITMENT ROUND 1:
Registrar/PHO - Re-preference
Candidates not offered a Registrar (incl. training position) or PHO position have the opportunity to Re-preference to remaining Reg or PHO vacancies or SHO/JHO positions.
SHO/JHO candidates wishing to amend preferences due to change of circumstance can do so also.

All preferenced facilities assess, interview and can provide job offer to candidates. Once job offer is accepted, candidate is allocated on the system. If no job offer is provided, candidate application automatically move to the next Recruitment Round. RECRUITMENT ROUND 2:
SHO/JHO - Assessment

All preferenced facilities assess, interview and can provide job offer to candidates. Once job offer is accepted, candidate is allocated on the system. If no job offer is provided, applications automatically move to the next Recruitment Round. RECRUITMENT ROUND 3:
Open Round
Candidate are emailed and asked to participate in the Open Round. Facilities contact candidates in the available pool, as positions become available.
Please note: Your application’s progress is based on the fact that if you are not allocated to a facility within the eRecruitment system your application moves to the next stage.Once you are allocated to a facility in the system, other facilities can not access your application, the application would need to be revoked and placed back into the candidate pool for this to occur. -
Submitting applications
Aplications are lodged via the Applicant portal. If you are applying for, or have been accepted onto an accredited training program with a specialist medical college, you will still need to submit an online RMO application.
Paper applications will not be accepted.
