How to obtain a referral

Genetic Health Queensland (GHQ) is a specialist service and so requires a written referral (PDF, 35KB) from your doctor. Please discuss with your doctor whether an appointment with GHQ will be of benefit.

GHQ is a public health service provided by Queensland Health, and patients have no out of pocket expenses for clinically appropriate services.

How do I request a referral?

  • Discuss the need for an appointment with your doctor (GP or specialist).
  • Please request a named referral to one of our consultants from your doctor.
  • All referrals should be sent to the Metro North Central Patient Intake Unit via fax to 1300 364 952.
  • Once your referral has been received, you and your doctor will be notified. You will be placed on a waitlist and contacted in due course.
