Mortuary assistant

Mortuary assistants, sometimes called mortuary attendants or mortuary technicians, play an important role in the post-mortem examination process. They assist forensic pathologists in preparing bodies and organ specimens for examination, while also maintaining the mortuary rooms, supplies and equipment.

This position requires excellent hygiene and infection control as handling specimens and potential exposure to pathogens is high.

This job is physically and emotionally demanding. The position involves regular exposure to deceased persons of all ages, often in all states of disfigurement, decomposition and/or disruption.
