Radiation safety training courses

Before operating an x-ray system in Queensland, you may need to attend an approved radiation safety training course. Biomedical Technology Services offers a range of radiation safety training courses to meet these needs.

Fluoroscopy user course

This course is designed for cardiology registrars with little or no previous experience in operating a fluoroscopy x-ray system.

Certification

On successful completion of this course, participants may apply for a radiation use licence through Radiation Health.

Radiation safety officer training

An interactive workshop designed for medical imaging radiation safety officers and those wanting to learn about and discuss current issues in maintaining a compliant, radiation safe workplace.

Certification

On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

User course for x-ray technicians

This course is designed for technicians who require a radiation use licence for maintaining and repairing x-ray equipment. 

The user course for x-ray technicians is delivered face-to-face at a date and time that is convenient to your business.

Radiation safety for orthopaedic surgeons

This course is designed for orthopaedic surgeons, registrars and principal house officers. The program consists of:

  • attendance at a 6-hour course consisting of theory and practical sessions
  • formal assessment (50 question, true/false exam).

Certification

The Australian Orthopaedic Association has approved this course to fulfil the radiation safety training requirements for applicants to the orthopaedics training program.

It may also be suitable for surgeons and registrars intending to apply for a regulatory radiation use licence (e.g. mini c-arm).

At-home radiation safety assessment for consultant cardiologists

The course is for consultant cardiologists who currently hold a radiation use licence and require radiation safety certification.
