Implementation of the Government response to Recommendation 6

Youth Mental Health

A reference group with members including Hospital and Health Services, the Department of Health, Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS), Primary Health Network, Department of Education and Training, universities, service providers, and consumer and carer representatives met on 7 March 2017 to provide advice on this recommendation.

The Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch completed the Final Report of the activities undertaken to deliver on the Government response to Recommendation 6 on 30 June 2017.

These activities included:

  • reviewing literature to identify the prevalence of Dual Diagnosis (DD) of intellectual disability and mental illness;
  • environmental scan and services mapping;
  • data matching of children and young people with intellectual disability and mental illness;
  • consultation with key stakeholders including people with lived experience; and
  • review of the Guidelines.

The recommendations in the final report are not Government Policy.

The Final Report is being considered by the Department of Health in the context of the findings from the other reports undertaken as part of the implementation of the Government response to the BAC COI Report.

The Youth Mental Health Program Oversight Committee established by Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAODB), Clinical Excellence Division, Department of Health will oversee the Youth Mental Health Program. The Youth Mental Health Program includes progressing work associated with the outcomes of reports and reviews completed as part of the successful implementation of the Queensland Government response to the Barrett Adolescent Centre (BAC) COI Report.
