iPad with Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

MASS provides an iPad with AAC to MASS eligible clients with little or no speech as their primary means of communication. This provides a mainstream alternative option to speech generating devices.

Clients are provided with:

  • 10.2” Wi-Fi iPad with 128GB.
  • Compatible Speech Case for protection/amplification.
  • An Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) app.

Basic accessories, such as switches and keyguards, and specialised accessories, such as mounts, are also funded at the established subsidy levels.

The client will take ownership of the device. MASS will not be responsible for any damage to the device. It is recommended that applicants include the iPad bundle in their home contents insurance in case it is stolen or suffers accidental damage.

MASS will retain ownership of basic and specialised accessories.

If the client owns their own iPad, they may apply for an iOS app only.

Android tablet or apps for Android devices are not funded through this category.

Exclusions

  • Requests for software applications that are for the purpose of therapy/rehabilitation, leisure or support of communication in certain contexts (e.g. Pictello or Talking Mats apps)
  • Requests for iPads with no accompanying AAC app.
  • iPads with cellular connection
