Moreton Island is a day trip from Brisbane
Brisbane boasts on average 283 days of sunshine per year, the envy of other Australian cities.
Some of the world’s best beaches are within an easy drive.
Head south to the Gold Coast for great swimming and surfing. Or visit the family theme parks and iconic Surfers Paradise beach.
North to the Sunshine Coast you’ll find Noosa and Mooloolaba, as well as the picturesque Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Visit nearby Moreton Island or Stradbroke Island for a day or a weekend.
The World Heritage-listed Scenic Rim
The Scenic Rim to the south-west is Brisbane’s World Heritage-listed backyard, known for its spectacular scenery a perfect destination for a country getaway.
Further inland Toowoomba and the Locker Valley are just 90 minutes’ drive, while a bit further south the Granite Belt offers crisp air and big sky.
Brisbane Airport is only 20 minutes from the city with easy access to low cost and premium airlines flying regularly to locations around Australia including the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays Islands, Sydney (1 hr) and Melbourne (1.5 hrs). Brisbane’s International Terminal is in the same location and has direct flights to 21 destinations in Asia, the South Pacific, New Zealand, North America and the Middle East.
Queensland Museum has free entry to permanent exhibitions and hosts regular special events.
GOMA at the Cultural Precinct
GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) and the Queensland Art Gallery are conveniently located near South Bank and the CBD and have free entry to permanent exhibitions, while also hosting blockbuster exhibitions.
Brisbane is home to the Queensland Theatre Company, Queensland Ballet, Opera Queensland and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
QPAC (Queensland Performing Arts Centre) is the major performing arts venue, however there are many other locations around the city including the Brisbane Powerhouse, La Boite Theatre and the Billie Brown Theatre.
Large concerts and international artists appear regularly at Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba Stadium.
Suncorp Stadium host major events
Fortitude Valley and West End host some of the best live music venues in the country.
Major sports include NRL, AFL, international and domestic cricket, Super Rugby and international tests, A-League football, netball and basketball.
