Queensland Health guideline for multicultural health policy implementation
In 2012, Queensland Health published the Guideline for multicultural health policy implementation which provides recommendations to Hospital and Health Services and Queensland Health Divisions regarding best practice for the implementation of the Queensland Multicultural Policy 2011 and Queensland Government Language Services Policy.
In addition, two attachments to the guideline were published:
- Attachment A - Guide to implementing the Queensland Multicultural Policy 2011 and Language Services Policy in a health context (PDF 292kB)
- Attachment B - Literature review - Best practice multicultural policy implementation (PDF 436kB)
The guideline and attachments provide recommendations for best practice in the planning, delivery and evaluation of health services for culturally and linguisitically diverse communities. It does this for each of the eight action areas of the Queensland Health Organisational Cultural Competency Framework.
The literature review on best practice multicultural policy implementation was conducted to inform the development of the guideline and identified emerging trends and best practice in seven of the eight outcome areas (not Special Needs Populations) of the Queensland Health Organisational Cultural Competency Framework.
Measuring implementation of the Queensland Multicultural Policy 2011
Queensland Health and Hospital and Health Services are required to report on 10 key performance indicators (KPI) in the Queensland Multicultural Policy 2011 - A multicultural future for all of us and Queensland Multicultural Action Plan 2011-14. These KPI are outlined in the attachments to the guideline.
Performance against these key performance indicators is reported in the Queensland Health Annual Report (from 2011-12).
