Oral health (Feel Good Facts campaign)

Feel Good Facts is a new campaign aimed at reminding Queenslanders to use healthy habits all year round.

It’s a handle for a series of quick little animations that bring to life all our different health facts and healthy habits, where there tends to be a gap between knowledge and behaviour.

They are fun-sized chunks of information giving tips on how to make the Queensland life feel even better.

The issue

Key figures from the Queensland Chief Health Officer 2018 report indicated that over July 2015 to June 2017, of children attending Queensland Health oral health services:

  • 55% aged 5-14 years had decay experience, 24% with four or more teeth affected.
  • 43% of children aged 5-6 years had decay in their primary teeth, 21% with four or more teeth affected.
  • 29% of children aged 6-14 years had decay experience in their permanent teeth, 12% had three or more teeth affected.
  • In 2015-16 there were 27,567 hospitalisations for dental conditions. One quarter (23%) were for children (0-14 years).

The campaign

The campaign aims to remind adults to adopt healthy habits in their daily lives, as well as, be role models to children to help them build healthy lifelong behaviours and practices.

  • Brush teeth twice a day for two minutes.
  • Brush baby’s teeth as soon as they appear.
  • Book your child’s first dental appointment before they turn two.
  • Book your child’s dental appointment regularly to prevent tooth decay.
  • Queensland children may be eligible to access free dental check-up.
