Mask wearing in South East Queensland will continue for another seven days as a precaution following new cases in the state.

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said to mitigate the risk of further incursions popping up across the state, masks will continue until Friday 6 August.

“It’s so important to wear a mask, and I genuinely believe they are stopping the spread into the community,” she said.

“They do more than just protect you. They also remind you to be a bit cautious; to keep 1.5m away from another person; to get tested if you have symptoms.

“They really are a very good strategy and that’s why it’s imperative we continue wearing them for an extra week.”

The mask rules continue to be:

  • You must carry a face mask with you at all times, and you must wear a face mask at all times when you are outside your home, unless:
    • you are alone in your car or with the members of your household
    • you are eating or drinking
    • you are at your usual workplace and can physically distance from others (except if you work in a hospitality venue or are a passenger transport operator)
    • you are alone outdoors or with members of your household
    • it is unsafe.
  • There are some other exceptions to wearing face masks, including for children under 12 and people with particular medical conditions or disabilities.
  • But if in doubt, wear a face mask.
