Data update for Indooroopilly cluster

Queensland has recorded four COVID-19 cases today all linked to the ‘Indooroopilly cluster’.

The four cases linked to the cluster were in quarantine, and as a result are not a risk to the community.

The cases take the cluster to 120, which includes 74 people aged 19 or under.

Five schools in south east Queensland are associated with this cluster.

There are more than 18,000 contacts associated with the cluster, including more than 15,000 close contacts. More than 14,700 people are in home quarantine.

Cairns update

Thanks to strong testing numbers and no new local cases, the lockdown on Cairns and Yarrabah communities was lifted at 4pm today (11 August).

Cairns and Yarrabah communities were in a three-day lockdown after a positive COVID-19 case was discovered in Cairns on 7 August.

Genomic sequencing linked the Cairns taxi driver reported on Sunday 8 August with a reef pilot who was reported on Wednesday 4 August. Their contact occurred on Monday 26 July.

Between Sunday 8 August and Tuesday 10 August, the region conducted more than 11,500 COVID-19 tests.

There are more than 2,300 contacts, with more than 1250 close contacts.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said while testing number were “superb in Cairns” it was important the community continued to get tested even though restrictions had eased.

“Congratulations to the people of Cairns. You've really supported your community, coming out. Please continue to come out,” Dr Young said.

“It's so reassuring that we've only had two cases. So, the reef pilot came into the Cairns community on Friday 23 July, which is why we've put some additional exposure sites up in Cairns.

“So, please, everyone in Cairns, could you go and check the website to make sure you haven't been in any of those exposure sites? It's really important that you still come forward and get tested. And anyone in Cairns with any symptoms at all, as you have been doing the last few days so well, please come forward and get tested.”

Contact tracing venues can be found at Contact tracing (exposure sites) — coronavirus (COVID-19). We urge Queenslanders to check the list regularly.

Gold Coast update

After reviewing all evidence, an Expert Advisory Group has determined the case reported on 8 August was not a positive COVID-19 case.

Close contacts, including the family, will be released from quarantine.

All exposure venues related to this case will be removed. There was only one location related to the case, which was Woolworths at Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre, 3 Swan Lane on 2 August between 2:55pm and 3:20pm.

Anyone who has been in home quarantine after visiting the reported exposure venues will no longer need to quarantine.

Queensland Health would like to thank the family and those in quarantine for their cooperation and patience while investigations were carried out.
