UPDATE - COVID-19

Read time

4 August 2021

More than 11,395 people are subject to quarantine orders as a result of the current clusters and people from overseas in hotel quarantine in Queensland. More than 5800 are due to the “Indooroopilly” cluster in south-east Queensland.

The cluster is now 63 cases after 16 more cases were announced this morning.

“Thirty-four cases are aged 19 and under,” Dr Young said.

“We’ve known younger people to have been less affected in previous outbreaks. However, that is no longer the case with Delta.

“Delta has a closer affinity to respiratory cells, and we know now that younger people are more at risk.

“It is true that they’re less likely to become extremely unwell if they get infected, but they are now thought to be more likely to transmit the virus to other people, and that’s concerning.”

Queenslanders should check the listed contact tracing locations and get tested if they have been to any of these venues at the times listed.

Cairns COVID-19 case

Queensland Health has released more contact tracing locations in Cairns, where a man tested positive to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

More than 500 contacts of the case have been identified and have undergone testing.

No more cases have been detected in the Cairns region however residents are urged to get tested immediately if they experience symptoms or have been to any of the listed contact tracing locations.

Wastewater detections

Viral fragments of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected in sewage during recent routine testing in suburban catchments in north and south Brisbane, as well as north and south Cairns.

The fragments could either indicate the presence of an undiagnosed case of COVID-19 in the community or that a case who is no longer infectious is still shedding fragments of the virus.

We encourage people to get tested for COVID-19 if they have any symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19, particularly if they live in or have recently been in the following suburbs:
