I know what it’s like to be on the other side of the health system and it can be very scary so it’s very important to me that I go out of my way each day to improve the experience of a patient, whether that’s simply saying hello in the lift or helping them walk to a taxi.
Acting PAH Relief Pool Manager, Kimberley Swaysland was selected by Chief Executive Shaun Drummond for the Chief Executive Award for Excellence Winner at the 2019 Reward, Recognition and Research Excellence Awards for Metro South Health.
Kimberley started at the PA Hospital in 2016 in the relief pool and, after some time in both Diabetes and Urology Outpatient Departments, has returned to the department as Acting Relief Pool Manager. Kimberley has been recognised by her peers for consistently going above and beyond, all with a big smile on on her face.
Coming from a background in wedding planning, Kimberley is familiar with helping people out in stressful moments. She says, “Weddings and medical appointments can be very similar, high stress with lots of parties involved. I’ve found that my previous experience has really translated across to the healthcare sector but here, I feel I can truly help people each and every day.”
As for Kimberley’s biggest piece of advice, she says it’s simple. “All of us can relate, there is a thousand things we need to do in what short amount of time we have in the day, but the patient doesn’t care about the data we need for the spreadsheet, or the meeting we have later that day, they care about the experience. If we can improve their experience here and how they feel while they’re in our care then I think we have done our jobs,” she said.
