1. National Schemes Rural and Remote
Medical Benefits Scheme (RRMBS)

Topic 1 introduces the 3 national Medicare schemes which assist in the funding of rural, remote and primary health care practice.

This includes the RRMBS which is applicable in remote areas, the COAG section 192 which covers chronic disease care in rural setting and the PBS which assists with the costs of pharmaceuticals in remote areas.

Topic 2 discusses the use of the RRMBS in the remote setting. This includes outlining processes for billing, Medicare eligible clinical services and item numbers which attract Medicare funding.

 

 

On completion of this topic learners will be able to

  • Define the Rural and Remote, COAG and S100 Indigenous PBS medical benefits schemes
  • Discuss the reasons for the development of the Rural and Remote, COAG and S100 Indigenous PBS medical benefits schemes
  • Demonstrate an understanding on how to utilise claimable items
  • Discuss the processes for billing under the RRMBS in rural and remote areas
  • Identify clinical care that that is eligible for Medicare funding
  • List and explain the Medicare item numbers that attract funding.
