Leptospirosis Reference Laboratory

Leptospirosis is a potentially lethal disease and it occurs in all parts of Australia with the highest incidence of the disease in Queensland. Leptospirosis is a notifiable disease.

The laboratory is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Leptospirosis, Australia and Western Pacific Region and OIE Reference Laboratory for Leptospirosis.

We collaborate extensively with universities and government departments and perform research, surveillance and diagnosis in the human and veterinary fields.
