Our Audiology Department is the largest tertiary facility in Queensland Health, providing a wide range of diagnostic and rehabilitative services to people with hearing issues. We are home to the only public Multidisciplinary Tinnitus Clinic as well as the largest Adult Implant Clinic in Queensland Health.

Our audiologists are highly trained across multiple areas to help people with:

• hearing loss
• dizziness/vertigo
• tinnitus and other ear-related conditions.

• hearing assessments
• balance testing
• electrophysiological testing
• speech discrimination testing
• otoacoustic emissions
• cochlear and bone conduction implants
• tinnitus assessment and counselling.

How to access this service

To access this service, your GP or medical practitioner will need to send a referral letter to the hospital. We also accept internal referrals from the hospital or specialist referrals from other Queensland Health facilities.

You will be placed on a waiting list and you will receive an appointment offer letter in the mail. Waiting times vary depending on your category and the tests required.

What to bring

How to prepare for your appointment

If required, we will give you instructions on how to prepare for your test before your appointment, otherwise your audiologist will explain the test procedure on the day. If you have copies of any previous hearing tests it would be helpful to bring these along to your appointment. Please make sure mobile phones are turned off before you enter the audiology test rooms as they may interfere with test equipment, even on silent/vibrate mode.

Does the hospital provide hearing aids?

No, we do not provide hearing aids or fit and adjust them. We can check your hearing to find out whether you need hearing aids and give you information about your local hearing aid services.
