The Infectious Diseases Unit provides services and care for people with a range of infectious disease problems.
In-patient care is focused on the treatment and management of patients with complex infectious diseases such as HIV and its complications, malaria and other travel-associated infections, meningococcal infection, endocarditis, fever of unknown origin, encephalitis, and meningitis.
Outpatients are seen in the outpatient clinics held in the Unit, the Day Therapy Unit or in the Private Practice Specialist Clinic.
The unit also provides ongoing education for the graduate medical program and post-graduate teaching.
The Infection Monitoring and Prevention Services
A comprehensive infection prevention and control program is available to help staff and patients minimise the risk of healthcare acquired infections. The consultancy and education service aims to ensure staff are updated and informed about infection control. General Practitioners, community service providers and other hospitals are welcomed to access the consultancy and education service.
