icon Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service's (HHS) 2012-13 $18.74 million budget community dividend will be invested back into the region providing better access to healthcare services.
icon The construction of the new $160 million ward block at the Rockhampton Hospital is due for completion mid-2014. It will house three storeys of cancer services, including inpatient beds, space for day therapy care and consulting rooms. It will also contain the expanded intensive care unit, two general inpatient wards and the rooftop helipad. Full cancer services, including radiation therapy, will be provided from the ward block from 2015-16.
icon Public patients are accessing eye surgery in Rockhampton for the first time in many years thanks to a private-public partnership with local ophthalmologists. The trial program will allow 200 of the most urgent cases to access their treatment in Rockhampton.
icon The median wait time in Central Queensland emergency departments was 18.3 minutes from July to December 2012—this reduced to 15.8 minutes in the same period for 2013.
icon Central Queensland HHS is achieving its National Emergency Access Target (NEAT)—which requires all patients presenting to an emergency department to be discharged, admitted or transferred to another facility within four hours of arriving. NEAT results for July to December 2012 was 77.37 per cent—this improved to 78.95 per cent in the same period in 2013.
icon The Gladstone Hospital has had significant recruiting successes with the appointment of a permanent director of medical services and a surgeon, and two full-time senior medical officers. In 2014, the hospital also welcomed two new paediatricians as joint appointments with the co-located Mater Hospital.
