Gold Coast University Hospital

icon Tertiary public health services will be expanded in 2013-14 to minimise the need for patients to travel to Brisbane to receive certain types of treatment. New services include radiation oncology and therapy services, trauma care, cardiac surgery and neonatal intensive care.
icon The Gold Coast University Hospital opened 28 September 2013. Key features of the hospital include seven main buildings with a total floor space of around 170,000 square metres, improved privacy and patient safety with over 70 per cent being single rooms, state-of-the-art facilities to train healthcare workers, on-site research facilities.
icon Cancer care at the Gold Coast University Hospital has increased with the start of radiation oncology and therapy services being delivered through a public-private partnership. Stem cell transplantation will commence in 2014.
icon In 2014, women and newborn services will be expanded. Women with high-risk pregnancies will be diagnosed and managed locally through the maternal foetal medicine service, and the newborn care unit will introduce more Level 3 neonatal intensive care cots to care for sick babies.
icon Children services have been expanded, including a dedicated treatment area for in the emergency department, critical care service in the intensive care unit, new children's inpatient unit with indoor and outdoor play areas, and a school room.


Cardiac surgery is now available to public patients at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
